• Shaheed (1948) : A patriotic film about the Indian independence movement. Stars Dilip Kumar, Kamini Kaushal.

• Tansen (1943): A Ranjit Movietone production. Title role played by K. L. Saigal and co-starred by Khursheed. Music by Khemchand Prakash.

• Kismet (1943): Directed by Gyan Mukherjee. Stars Ashok Kumar as a pickpocket trying to make it big.

• Khazanchi (1941): Singer Shamshad Begum makes her singing debut in this film with the songs Sawan Ke Nazare Hai and Ek Kali Nazon Ki Pali.

• Sikander (1941): Historical drama based on Alexander the Great's invasion of India. Stars Prithviraj Kapoor and Sohrab Modi.

1930s

• Pukar (1939): Sohrab Modi directed this historical film, based on the legend of Jahangir's justice. Stars Sohrab Modi and Naseem Banu.

• Achhut Kanya (1936): A Brahmin boy (Ashok Kumar) falls in love with a lower caste girl (Devika Rani).

• Dhoop Chhaon (1935): Starring K. L. Saigal and K. C. Dey, this movie introduced playback singing in the Indian film industry.

• Devdas (1935): The second movie adaptation of a popular Bengali novel, written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1917. Families concerned only with wealth and social position thwart true love. Directed by P.C. Barua and starred K. L. Saigal and Jamuna Devi.

• Toofan Mail (1934): Considered to have laid down the basis of filmi music for years to come. Had a classic title track, considered widely as a timeless hit.

• Alam Ara (1931): First talkie movie in India.
